ENERGY EFFICIENT HOUSE
Students enjoy designing and building energy efficient houses. This project equips students with a diverse skill set.
- They delve into the principles of energy efficiency. They learn about passive solar design, natural ventilation, and the placement of windows for optimal energy performance.
- Understand how energy efficient design and renewable energy sources contribute to a cleaner environment.
- Keep a record of the design and building progress.
- Learn to solder electrical components.
- Learn basic concepts of electricity.
- Solve problems that arise during the building process.
- Work in teams and share their knowledge, ideas and plans.
SOLAR OVEN
Solar ovens can reduce the need for fossil fuels or electricity for cooking, which is beneficial for the environment. With this activity, students can develop different skills: a) Learn about how sunlight is converted into heat energy and how different materials can trap and retain that heat. B) Applying the engineering design process. During this process, students have to make decisions about materials and colour to optimize performance. c) Collaborate, delegate tasks, and work together to achieve a common goal.

Developing the project from home
Students from the Cundinamarca School plant the seed in their home. During this time, they water the plant; measure the amount of water needed and the growth of the plant. The observations are written on a table previously designed by them.
